HSO Youth Programme

The Huronia Symphony Orchestra Youth Programme offers young music students in Simcoe County the opportunity to learn what it means to play as part of a symphony orchestra, and to be mentored by experienced orchestra musicians. 

This year's programme will begin with three youth-only rehearsals, progressing from instrument-specific sectionals, to instrumental families, and finally to a full youth orchestra. Students will then join the HSO for three rehearsals, leading to a performance alongside the musicians of the HSO on April 11, 2027. Students will also have the opportunity to meet other young musicians and interact with HSO players.

The programme is led by HSO Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Rafael Luz. During the sectional rehearsals, students will work with HSO principal players, receiving guidance from experienced professional musicians:

Woodwinds: Paul Goeglein
Brass: Michael Barth
Strings and Youth Orchestra: Elianna Van Raalte

The repertoire will include excerpts from Themes from 007, The Adventures of Tintin, The Pink Panther, and Mission: Impossible.

Sunday, February 21 - 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Sunday, February 28 - 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Sunday, March 7 - 5:30-8:00 p.m. (including a 30-min break)

Sunday, March 21 - 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 4 - 7:00-8:0 p.m.

Sunday, April 11 - Concert at 3:30 p.m. (soundcheck at 1:30 p.m.)

The programme is free of charge and open to music students who live or study in Simcoe County. Students do not need to have had prior orchestra experience to be participants.
