RUSSELL OATES – 2nd Bassoon

This is Russell’s eighth year with the Huronia Symphony.  Russell is also a member of the HSO’s Artistic Board.

A graduate of The University of Western Ontario’s Music and Education Faculties, Russell studied saxophone with George van Ostrand and Douglas Pullen and oboe (briefly) with Geralyn Giovanetti.

Being a saxophonist, Russell missed the orchestral experience; and having remembered how much he enjoyed his Bassoon elective course with David Hayward, reacquainted himself with the often-misunderstood woodwind in the mid-90s.

As a Bassoonist, Russell has performed with The Oakville Symphony and Symphony Hamilton, along with The Burlington Concert Band and the Orillia Wind Ensemble.
Russell is presently Arts Chair and teaches Instrumental Music at Nantyr Shores Secondary School, in Innisfil.
