ABOUT THE HURONIA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

A small baroque orchestra, performing in Collier St.
Church, under the direction of Mr. Lloyd Tufford, was the
genesis of the present day Huronia Symphony Orchestra.
Now celebrating its 46th season, the HSO is the sole
community orchestra in Barrie and Simcoe County.
The
orchestra is comprised of 55 talented and dedicated
volunteer musicians from the community and four
professionals who lead the major sections.
Members are
drawn from all walks of life and reflect the diverse social
fabric of this dynamic region. Whereas many musical
festivals in town bring in professional ensembles and
soloists from outside of Barrie, only the HSO represents
this community’s own high level of orchestral musicmaking. Thus the HSO is an established cultural institution of
which the citizens of Barrie can be proud.
Administered by a volunteer board of
directors who represent
all walks of life, and their diverse talents and dedication along with our many dedicated helpers all led by the
president, John Hemstead,
reflect this community’s enthusiasm for the HSO.
Our musicians are committed to developing the
worthy tradition of sharing the excitement of live
orchestral performance with
a widening audience.
We welcome you to come and share the experience. Purchase your ticket today.
